I’ve worked in the community as a nurse for many years and chose to transition back to nursing education at Appalachian State University in 2017. I love the part I play in shaping the minds and hearts of future nurses. I love being in the classroom engaging with students. And I especially love teaching students about the complexities of working in the community, seeing the work that needs to be done, developing a plan of action, and taking good care of themselves in the process. Working in the community teaching, listening, sharing, and organizing is truly the work I am called to do.
I have seen in my work that individually we can make forward steps, but in community we can make great strides. I have seen the collective power of learning new behaviors in a group setting. And most recently I have seen the transformative power of women gathering in circle to further their personal growth so that they can make a greater impact in their families and communities.
